Assignment: Design an original character for the purpose of being manufactured as an articulated toy. These toys will be mass produced through a molding process so no tin toys, or plush toy designs. The character and toy should be geared towards a specific audience and age group. The toys should have at least three points of articulation (i.e. head and two arms— etc.). For your model sheet you will need to do an iconic picture of the character, along side a version of the character as a toy. The toy should be illustrated from three sides (front, profile and back) additionally you will need to define the moving parts and the assembly of the toy in an exploded view. The iconic illustration -OR- one view of the toy should be in color. No existing characters or people!
THINK ABOUT:
These should not be sculptures. These are posable objects and your illustrations should reflect that. There is no single correct pose for these designs (see examples).
Think about your points of articulation. Which points will be most natural? How will they move? How will they be constructed?
Think about audience! Whether it is broad or specific, these toys should be made with a specific group in mind.
What sets your character apart from other characters and toys already on the market?
Think about what is feasible. What can be sculpted and molded effectively? Remember this will be mass produced.
Are there props or accessories that come with your toy?
